On today’s Recovery Now, Jen Lever joined Lori to to talk about courageous love in recovery. They started off talking about tough love and the negative connotations it brings. Then they reiterated how tough love is not a formula, but it’s choosing to stay in God’s love and be led of his spirit while dealing with a loved on in recovery. They also, told us it may mean being firm, but it’s never withholding love.
Jen continued to tell us about the manipulative culture of those in recovery, and how to handle thoughts of impending doom when you’re their caregiver. She told us to have a healthy expectation of good, learning to listen and affirm those in recovery, and have a motive of love. Lori gave an example of how to affirm someone who wants to make the wrong decision. Then they talked about emotional IQ being a vital part of responding to your loved ones.
