On today’s Personal Safety, Bob Boilard from Defensive Strategies, joined lori to talk about Reasons to Learn Self-Defense. They started off talking about violent crime rates, how people don’t think crime can happen to them, and taking all threats seriously. Bob told us the importance of being mentally prepared to avoiding freezing in a threatening situation. He also highlighted situational and people awareness, and told us 75% of women will be a victim of a violent crime in their lifetime.
Next, the conversation turned to reasons to consider self-defense, what criminals look for in their victims, and how to avoid being one. Bob told us the three stages of a crime, different self-defense tools, and why awareness and avoidance are our best defense. He added about cultural issues, disparity of force for seniors, women, and the disabled.
