Don’t Give Up On Your Loved Ones In Recovery

On today’s Recovery Now, Jen Lever joined Lori to encourage us not to give up on our loved ones in recovery. They started off talking about the stigma attached to recovery and Jen’s recent opportunity to encourage someone to not give up. Jen then told us about an affirming text from her son that brought her to tears.

Next, they talked about waiting on the Lord to have peace through the difficult times. Also, not to take our loved one’s addiction personally, and accepting that we can’t control or cure it. Jen added how to tell our loved ones we will support their recovery, but not their bad behavior. She then shared how some caregivers may feel like running away, but they can learn to maintain their peace and let God and others help them.

The conversation alluded to how some people in recovery may feel they deserve punishment, but how caregivers can show them a better way. Also, the importance living your life and modeling the right way can build hope. Finally, Loro told us about Jen’s expertise in early childhood education, and how we deal with emotional age with recovering loved ones more than natural age. Listen in and hear more about it.
