Dealing With Conflict in Recovery

On today’s Recovery Now, Jen Lever joined Lori to talk about dealing with conflict in recovery. They started off talking about the undertaking it is to care for someone in recovery, and how there’s no quick fixes. They added how we can learn from someone who has been in the battle for a while, to be better able to navigate through. They also discussed the deception, emotional immaturity, and manipulation with this issue.

Next, Lori encouraged Jen for how much she has grown, and also every parent who feels alone dealing with a child in recovery. The conversation turned to how 10% of conflict is due to disagreement and 90% is due to tone of voice and delivery. They shared ways we can communicate better to avoid conflicts, and how to come to terms with worse case scenarios.

They then talked about the role self-care plays in being prepared for conflict. Also, having a plan, knowing where you would go when you need a break, and trying to reason with someone who doesn’t want to talk about it. Finally, they covered some of the phases of conflict. Listen in and hear more about it!
