Self Care For Caregivers Of Recovery

On today’s Recovery Now, Jen Lever joined Lori to talk about the importance of self care. They started off talking about the stress that depletes the emotional  and physical energy of caregivers. Jen then told us about an article. Taking Care of Yourself as a Counselor, By Lynne Shallcross. The conversation continued about negative cycles, becoming reactionary, and how to find peace and joy.

Next the discussion covered ways to regain control and energy. They shared about practicing good habits, celebrating small victories, knowing your limits and when to say NO. They also touched on other helpful things, such as, exercise, staying organized, taking a break, setting boundaries and mapping out your day.

Finally, they talked about the importance having an objective voice of reason, such as a trusted friend or coach, and starting and ending your day with prayer and meditation. Listen in and hear more about it.
